Mary…. After being visited by shepherds who probably told she and Joseph about the visiting angels and then a whole host of angels praising God in the night sky, sits in the space where Jesus lay, lovingly looking at her precious newborn baby. She ponders these things in her heart. She knows her baby is the Son of God, having been visited by an angel herself. She too, has praised God, being a humble servant, obedient to God’s will, to be used by God for her good and His glory. Her life has changed. A quiet small town girl suddenly in the spotlight. She sits quietly as strangers come to worship their Messiah. Sits in the background, knowing it is Jesus they have come to see. Being an instrument in God’s sovereign plan of redemption.
In all of this Mary was the Lord’s servant, in service to God. How are you serving your Lord? Raising children. Caring for aging parents. Teaching others. Distributing food, clothing, meals to the needy. Sitting with someone who needs a listening ear. Mary knew the scriptures. She, along with the rest of the Jews, were awaiting the Messiah’s arrival. Do you know Jesus? Have you confessed Jesus as your Savior and Lord? Do you read your Bible to learn of Him, to learn from Him? “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.” (Luke 1:47-50) We, like Mary, praise God, thanking Him for sending us His Son, Jesus. “ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)

That sleeping child you’re holding is the great, I Am
