Entertaining. Good vs. Evil. Hobby vs. Addiction. Is it a sport? My family recently had a discussion (debate) over where video games fall. My sons are grown now. They can do as they please. It is out of our control. One of my sons gave my husband a tutorial on a game my husband and three sons played together years ago. It brought them together then. Gave them a common interest. Father-Son bonding. It is making a comeback and two of my sons have been showing my husband, their dad, the updated version. It has brought them together again. Gave them a common interest again. Father-Son bonding again.
When our children were young, video games were for entertainment. Family time. As they grew into teenagers, video games became more popular. However, it isolated them from family time and length of time spent playing became longer. We put time limits on. Our sons weren’t being secretive. They actually showed us what they were playing, wanted us to try it out, too.
Life is busy. Life is stressful. I get it. Humans need hobbies, activities they enjoy to release the stress. Finding purpose in life. Forming relationships, spending quality time with loved ones are important, as well. Begin your day with God. Prayerfully consider how He wants you to spend your down time. Square it up with God. Find peace in your decision.
Ephesians 5:15-17 “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”
